French triumph at Cannes 2015 with Jacques Audiard, author of Dheepan, who won the Palme d’Or, and other two very important Palme assigned to as many French movies: the best actress prize given to Emmanuelle Bercot (and Rooney Mara) and the best actor prize to Vincent Lindon.
Dheepan, awarded as best film, is about a trio of Sri Lankans (a man, a young woman and a child) who pretend to be a family in order to flee their war-torn country and are settled in a violent housing project outside Paris.
Italy remained disappointed: despite three valid film-makers (Paolo Sorrentino with Youth, Nanni Moretti with Mia Madre and Mattero Garrone with Il racconto dei racconti), Italy did not manage to get any award this year. The defeat was commented with few words by Coen brothers, jury presidents: “we didn’t have awards for everyone”.
